Bioparc – Doué-la-Fontaine
Ranked 2nd best zoo in Europe
Located near the Loire Valley, the Bioparc of Doué-la-Fontaine is a one-of-a-kind site thanks to its troglodytic setting. Installed in falun quarries, it immerses visitors in lush vegetation and cascading waterfalls. Falun, a shell-stone typical of the region and deposited by the sea over 11 million years ago, is a soft rock ideal for recreating suitable environments for various animal species.
Covering 25 hectares, the Bioparc is laid out on two geographic levels and centers around islands and vast animal enclosures.
Home to Europe’s largest open-air aviary, the Bioparc features South American birds such as red-headed vultures, flamingos, ibises, macaws, and parakeets. It is also the only aviary in the world where Andean condors can fly.
